tips for flawless make-up - why should you clean your brushes?

Cleaning Make-up brusheswww.fierceandfashionable.com
We all know how important it is to have a regular cleansing routine for your skin. For example, washing your make-up off before going to bed allows your skin to breathe. But did you know it is also very important to clean your make-up brushes? Like your skin, make-up brushes also get clogged up. Once your brush is like this, it is not good for your skin nor is it good for the brush.

Why is cleaning your make-up brushes so important?
  • Make-up brushes are awesome for picking up product and blending it, but it means they are also good at picking up the oil, dead skin and bacteria that maybe on your skin. Your brushes can become a place where bacteria can breed, causing skin problems like acne, blemishes and infections.
  • Brushes last longer if they are cleaned regularly and in the proper way.
  • When applying make-up, you want the exact colour you are applying, so a dirty brush with remnants of yesterday's colour is going to introduce different colours and the blending won't look how you are expecting it to. A clean brush means perfect colour.
How often should you clean your brushes?
  • Brushes that come in contact with the eyes or mouth (eyeliner or lipstick brushes) should be cleaned every time you use them, as bacteria like moist areas to breed.
  • If you have problem or oily skin, its best to clean your brushes after every use, but if you don't, then once a week or every two weeks is sufficient.
Keep an eye out for future blog posts on the best make-up brush cleaning products and how to clean your brushes correctly.
Look and feel fabulous!

what is bridal boudoir?

Boudoir photography is a sexy trend which is becoming increasingly popular among ladies of all ages. In addition, when a boudoir shoot is done tastefully with the right photographer, it is beautiful, sensual and elegant.

We are photographing more and more brides, this is probably because, this sensual photo-shoot makes the perfect, special and intimate gift for their groom. This type of photo-shoot is called a bridal boudoir.

How does bridal boudoir differ from a normal boudoir shoot?
There isn't a huge difference, as we always ask our ladies to bring along a selection of lingerie and outfits to their photo-shoot. However, we encourage our brides to bring their wedding elements with, such as their bridal jewellery, garter, white or bridal lingerie, wedding shoes, flowers and of course their veil.

Can I still do my shoot if I do not have all my bridal elements yet?
Of course! The femme fatale studio is well equipped with bridal props if you do not have everything. We have the most gorgeous and beautiful cathedral length veil that was custom made for us by our dear friend and recommended wedding dress & accessory supplier By Ligita. We also have a selection of jewellery, bridal corsets, garters, etc.

When should I do my bridal boudoir photo-shoot?
We recommend you do your photo-shoot at least 6 weeks before your wedding. That gives us enough time to edit the images beautifully and have your gorgeous boudoir album printed and delivered to you before your wedding day.

What does bridal boudoir look like?
We just love doing bridal boudoir, as it is soft, sensual and really beautiful. One of our favourite things to do is implied nude. This is where we use your or our veil strategically to cover all the important places, but leave a lot to the imagination.

Below is a few images from Miss Kamzisto's bridal boudoir photo-shoot. These will give you an idea of what to expect.

A big thank you to Monique for the beautiful make-up, and Miss Kamzisto for allowing us to use her gorgeous images and for being such an amazing lady to work with!

breast cancer awareness - how to do a self-exam

As October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, it's probably only fitting that we discuss breast self-examination. Having said that, we should really be aware of our breasts and taking care of them all year round.

Our team has been working with Bosom Buddies, a South African based cancer support group run by survivors, for 2 years now, as well as with Buddies for Life, the magazine publication specifically for breast cancer patients, survivors and the supporters around them.

They are both non-profit organisations that are run as projects for the Breast Health Foundation. To keep the projects running, they rely on donations and assistance from the public.

Should you wish to get involved, please visit their website for more information: http://bosombuddies.cfsites.org/
Breast Cancer affects more women than we are probably aware of, and it doesn't discriminate, so any woman of any age, race or creed can be affected.  Below are a few facts about Breast Cancer in South Africa:
  • One in every 31 woman in South Africa is diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
  • Breast Cancer is the second most common cancer in South Africa
  • Approximately 5% of woman diagnosed in South Africa are younger than 35 years old.
  • There has been an alarming increase in woman under the age of 25 being diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
  • If Breast Cancer is detected early enough, there is a survival rate of more than 95%.
Early detection saves lives, so here is a few things to do and to watch out for:
Stand in front of a mirror, firstly with your hands on your hips and secondly with raised arms and look at your breasts checking for the following:
  • Any shape, size or colour change
  • Visible distortion or swelling
  • Dimpling, puckering, or bulging of the skin
  • A nipple that has changed position or an inverted nipple (pushed inward instead of sticking out)
  • Redness, soreness or rash
  • Signs of fluid coming out of one or both nipples (this could be a watery, milky, or yellow fluid or blood)
The next test is also done in two stages and maybe be easiest when the skin is wet. So while you are in the bath or shower.
  • Raise one arm above your head in a lying down position.  Use the right hand to check the left breast and vice versa.
  • Keeping your fingers together, use the fingertips firmly and smoothly in a circular motion over the breast.  You can use small or large circles, but ensure you cover the entire breast, from underarm to cleavage.
  • Vary the pressure from light to firm to ensure you feel all of the breast tissue from just beneath the skin to all the way down to the ribcage.
  • Do this on both breasts, and repeat again in a standing position.
It is recommended that you check your breasts at least once a month, and generally when you are menstruating.  Your gynaecologist should also do a breast exam during your yearly check-up and if you are concerned please chat to them about doing a mammogram.  Should you notice any abnormality that were described above, or feel any lump of any kind, please see your Doctor as soon as possible and get this checked.

sexy miss kamzisto

Having previously worked with the gorgeous Kamzisto, we were delighted to hear that she was visiting us from the windy city of Cape Town and wanted to do a boudoir shoot. This was her first boudoir shoot, and we hope not her last, as we love working with her...she is just so hot and sexy!

When Kamzisto arrived at our studio, we jumped for joy when we saw her beautiful hair, she never fails to amaze us with her fabulous locks. We immediately whisked her into the makeup chair so Monique could do her magic with a soft and sensual look.

This young lady is smoking hot in front of the camera, she knows how to turn the sexy on!  Thank you to the incredibly sexy Miss Kamzisto for joining us in studio and allowing us to share her fabulous images.
