The secret to getting a great fitting bra

When researching this series about great fitting bra's we realised how little we really know about the pretty things that are supposed to uplift and support us.  When fitting a bra, there are so many things to consider, and we learnt that if the bra fits well, it is slimming, gives unbelieveable support, relieves pressure from the back and shoulders and creates the most amazing shape ever!
In our eyes, thats a very good reason to invest in a proper bra fitting service at a leading Lingerie supplier.

There are 4 key areas to a great fit and amazing support, and it is important that all 4 of these are correctly adjusted.

These are:
  1. The bra straps
  2. The wings or back panel
  3. The bridge or centre gore
  4. The bra cups
The anatomy of a bra

The bra straps -  Are actually not there to create lift which most of us believe.  They work with the band or wings to evenly distribute the weight of the breasts.  They should be tight but comfortable and you should get one finger width of space beneath the strap.
The wings or back panel - The back panel should always be snug fitting, but never constrict your breathing or be uncomfortably tight.  It should also not ride up your back and always sit level with the bridge or centre gore at the front of the bra.  Too tight means you need a bigger band size, riding up means you need a smaller one.  You should be able to put one finger inside the back band comfortably.  Remember when purchasing a new bra that it should hook on the loosest hook.  This increases the life of your bra, as the elastic relaxes you can still tighten it using the other hooks.
The Bridge or Centre Gore - This is where the wire of the cups meet at the front of the bra between your breasts.  This part should lie flush with your ribcage but not dig in or gape.  If it pushes in and squashes the breast tissue, your cup is too small, and if it gapes the cup is too big or the band size is too large.
The Cups - There should be a seamless transition between the cup and the breast, no bulging or puckering.  This should be comfortable and your breasts should naturally fill the cups.  If you are bulging out at the front and by your underarms, then the cup is too small, and if the cup has a gape in the front you need a smaller size.
After writing this, we went and checked all of our bras .... guess what, half of them didnt fit correctly and were donated to ladies who dont have money to buy their own.

stunning mrs k

Mrs K came to our studio all the way from Italy for her boudoir shoot. Her reason...just for her...we just love this reason. She wanted to feel and look sexy and beautiful...as you can see - she did!

After many frantic "Oh my Gosh" messages and emails, it was finally time for her shoot. She arrived with so many killer outfits and the sexiest pair of shoes...we were drooling as they were so gorgeous!

She was shaking like a leaf at the thought of what she was about to do...a few sips of champagne later and loads of ooohs and aaahs over the beautiful things she had brought, Mrs K relaxed and was ready to start her pamper process. After her make-up was done and she looked fabulous and started to feel it too...she was ready to start her shoot. It didn't take long for her to completely relax and enjoy every minute of the experience...as soon as she saw the first set of images she was blown away. Her nerves vanished and out came the sexy vixen, that had been in hiding for so long.

Mrs K described her boudoir experience as a journey....one where she started finding out who she really is.

It was incredible to watch her confidence grow during the shoot and we cant wait for her to visit us again for her next shoot in a couple of months.

how to measure your bra size correctly

There are several excellent lingerie suppliers, who will professionally measure your bra size. We recommend the following :
    Simply Gorgeous Lingerie
    The Corsetiere
Liza Clifford Professional Bra Fitting Studio

However, you may want to measure yourself, below is a guide to assist you.
You will need a soft tape measure, a well fitting soft unpadded bra and someone to assist you.

Please note, this is only a guide and that your size may differ based on bra brand and style. It is always best to be measured by a professional bra fitting studio.
  • Stand straight and relax. Don't inhale...just relax and breathe normally.
  • First measure around your rib-cage directly under your breasts (A), this will give you your under-bust measurement. Make sure the tape is snug but not too tight.  (e.g. : 34 inches = band size 34). Refer to the Band Size Chart below, to determine your correct band size.
  • Next, measure the fullest part of your chest, without pulling the tape tight, the tape should be around the fullest part of your breasts (B) - this will give you your over-bust measurement (e.g. :  38 inches)
Picture
  • Calculate the difference between you over-bust and under-bust measurement (e.g. : difference between 34 and 38 = 4 inches.  This would make the bra size 34C). Refer to Cup Size Chart below.
